God's Unseen Plan

One man is dead, another in prison. This is not how I envisioned my life would go. I couldn’t wrap my head around what was happening. Less than a month ago, I had been living the dream of every farm boy in Texas. I was almost sixteen and having the time of my life. I played football on Thursday nights and marched in the band on Fridays. Soon I would get my driver’s license and be able to drive my dad’s Dodge truck. Then I’d borrow it to take my girlfriend on a date. I was even planning to run for student council the next year. But in a span of three days my whole life had changed. Now we were running from tiny Glen Rose, TX to Pensacola, FL, and living the stuff of nightmares. And so began my long struggle with God—who, though I did not know it, would never give up on me. Each of us struggle with unplanned problems. Bad things happen to good people. Through this moving story, may you find hope, help, and comfort only found in Jesus Christ that will enable you not just to survive trouble but to thrive in the midst of it and come out the other side finding perfection only in God’s grace.

About the Author

James Howard is the Executive Director of Trinity Security Allies, a non-profit providing safety education, training and consulting services to all houses of worship, faith-based schools, and non-profit organizations regardless of their size and finances. Jim has served more than 40 years in the security business, 38 years as a sworn law enforcement officer, and time as a consultant in Washington D.C.

I am thankful to Jim for writing this story of his path and his life. I've known Jim and Wendy for several years. I've been in group Bible studies with them, and I've grown to care for them and love them even more after reading this book. It was difficult to put this book down, and I've continued thinking about all of the many twists and turns well after I've finished. God is in every moment of our lives, whether we choose to acknowledge His place or we don't. God is patient with us, so patient, and He loves us endlessly. This story shows how God is there, lovingly waiting for us to take His hand and move forward with Him to where He wants us to be. God lovingly waited for Jim, and God is waiting for you also. Read this book and find yourself, and God, in its pages.

I met Jim at a conference and bought his book. Once I started reading, I couldn’t put it down. My story is the same only different. God cleans up our messes if we are willing and then He can use us in amazing ways.

Just when you think the author’s life couldn’t get any worse, it does. From the title you know he finds God, but yet through his movie like life story it keeps you anticipating when it will actually happen. I enjoyed the honest look at his law enforcement career and details that put you right into the scene. The brokenness from childhood causes him to be mad at God, and run from God. His story is a great example of how God uses the bad things we go through and uses them for good. And how a loving Heavenly Father pursues us and never gives up on us.
